We came across this page on Wikipedia a few days ago which we wanted to share on the blog. It gives a full comparison of over 20 different employee productivity tools.

As you can see from that list, there are many different ways of measuring employee productivity and it’s easy to get a bit carried away with technology and then getting really anal about making people enter time against tasks and so on.

We’ve said it before – the software is the easy part. The tricky part is the cultural acceptance of any new system which you are looking to introduce and there are some techniques of how best to do this at the monitoring productivity blog.

Timesheet software isn’t always the be all and end all when it comes to time tracking… Spreadsheets – especially inside Google Docs so that they are easily shared are another way… accounting applications like Quickbooks often have tracking applications within them which integrate into the accounts.

You can also use applications like Fruitfultime or Rescuetime (and can read the reviews at those links) to effectively spy on yourself to see what you’ve been up to during the day and combine results with colleagues.

Our final piece of advice is to only measure and report on the things you are really interested in and can make a real difference to your business if you focus on them by analysing collated results. If employees see you acting on gathered results, they’ll be more likely to participate accurately.

UPDATE:
